Margaret Ann Elizabeth Sharp's Obituary
Margaret Ann Elizabeth Sharp, 88, passed away at Palm Garden of Gainesville, Florida on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. She was born August 7, 1928 in Ft. William, Ontario, Canada to her parents Frederick and Gertrude Corneil. Margaret was a longtime resident of Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she worked as a dental hygienist. She lived there with her first husband James Leonard and raised five children. Subsequent to her first husband’s death she married Jack Sharp on March 28, 1980. Margaret moved to Alachua, Florida in 1980 with Jack Sharp. Jack and Margaret were married for 37 years. After raising five children of her own she helped to raise her step-grandson, Kelly Sharp.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, her step-daughter Margie Kearney (Jim) of Douglasville, GA, her brother, David Corneil (Cathy) of Toronto, Canada, and her son, Gary Leonard (Joyce) of Marietta, GA. Margaret had a big family and a big heart. She is survived by her husband, Jack Sharp of Alachua, FL, her daughter, Cindy Black of Cameron, S.C., her sons Ron Leonard of Bell, FL, Terry Leonard (Kathy Brito) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jim Leonard (Tammie) of Spartanburg, S.C., her step-son Bill Sharp (Leigh) of St. Petersburg, FL. Margaret “Gran” Sharp is also survived by her eleven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren: Seth Leonard (Amber) of Marietta, GA; Jared Leonard (Heather) of Atlanta, GA and Leah Jardin (James) of Flowery Branch, GA; Jill Black and Jason Black (Nanci) of Cameron, S.C.; Kaseylynn Leonard and Ian Leonard of Bell, FL; Phil Leonard of Cameron, S.C. and Tom Leonard (Kelsey) of Sunrise, FL; Travis Leonard and Marissa Leonard of Spartanburg, S.C.; Kelly Sharp (Michelle) and Karen Kearney of Gainesville, FL, Kevin Kearney (Virginia) of Douglasville, GA, Kaylee Sharp of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Michael Sharp of St. Petersburg, FL. Margaret “Great Gran/Geegee” Sharp is also survived by her fourteen great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren: Taylor, Aiden, Luke, Patrick, Charlotte, Micaiah, Solomon, Boaz, Ethyn, Ashley, Allison, Emma, Joseph, Zyler, Scarlet, Samantha, Maggie, Breanna, Lily and Ella.
A private gathering of close friends and family was held at the home of Jack Sharp on Saturday, January 21, 2017 to celebrate Margaret’s life. Her wishes were to be cremated and placed with her favorite flowers at her home. To honor Margaret’s memory: Knit something beautiful, have a tasty beverage, read a good novel, hug your loved ones, plant a flower, feed a hummingbird, smile every day, “never meet a stranger” and love BIG.
