Margaret Lillian McCraw Goard's Obituary
Margaret Lillian McCraw Goard, 86, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019, in the E. T. York Hospice Care Center, following a recent illness.
Mrs. Goard was born on November 21, 1932, on the family farm in Cana, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Lois Virginia Slate McCraw. In 1954, she married Mr. Paul Edison Goard, and began her life as a military wife, living throughout the U. S., until settling in Gainesville in 1978. Mrs. Goard worked for many years at J. C. Penney as a sales associate. Mrs. Goard was of the Southern Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, and had a great lifelong love of traveling, beginning with her experiences in high school. Along with her daughters, she loved genealogy and helping them trace their family trees.
She was preceded in death by her husband in April 2017.
She is survived by her two daughters, Prissilla Lynn (Lindley Marvin) Rogers and Karen Reenee Goard (Todd Lee) Hester, both of Gainesville; a brother, William Ray “Billy” McCraw, of Mt. Airy, NC; two sisters, Shelby Jean (Jack) Lineberry, of Woodlawn, VA, and JoAnne (Terry) Coleman, of Lowgap, NC; and three grandchildren, Christopher Daniel Rogers, Henry Edward Hester and Sarah Elizabeth Hester, all of Gainesville.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at 2:00 P. M., in the Memorial Park West. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 615 Slaters Lane, Alexandria, Virginia, 22313.
