I (born 1949) fondly remember a grade school classmate named Mardell Moffitt at the Laon France AFB in the latter 1950’s. When I recently Googled her name in hopes of reconnecting, I encountered an Obituary and was devastated to realize I had missed her by mere days!#! I am beyond sad, but our wonderful childhood memories are now flooding back. She & I enjoyed much fun together at the Base’s ‘sub-teen club’ every Friday evening, dancing to young Ricky Nelson & Elvis 45’s. One night’s snack there was our first ever ‘ice cream sandwich.’ Her new black patent-leather party shoes with tiny raised ‘heels’ were admired by all the other girls. I feel so lucky that this cute girl with dark curly hair was my very sweet friend!!!

I remember Mardell for her love of art , music, friends and animals. Who could forget the great nights of pickin’ and eating with friends at Possom Trot or being entertained by our pack of dogs led by ‘Andy Tire Biter’ chasing cars on the dirt road out front or raising chickens and growing our own weed out back. It was a happy time for all of us and Mardell was front and center. Rest in peace dear girl.

Mardell was an old soul in the best sense of the word.
She was a loyal Gator, a devout dog person, and she loved her brothers.
The first two fidelities demonstrate a deep wisdom, the last one is somewhat more befuddling….:-)
The world is a little colder place in her absence. She will be missed.
