Lula Mae Bass Michael's Obituary
Lula Mae Bass Michael, age 83, of High Springs passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Plantation Oaks. She was born October 23, 1938 in Bell Florida to Johniford and Estell Bass. She graduated from Bell High School. In 1958 she moved to Gainesville and lived there until 1987. She moved to Ocala when she married Mike and lived there until moving back to Gainesville in 2003. She resided in the area her entire life.
She retired from Munroe Regional Hospital as an Admissions Coordinator. Her main joy in life was her family. She also loved to bake, garden and attend church. In her later years, she enjoyed crocheting and made hats with the Summit Baptist Church ladies. The hats are part of gift boxes to be donated to the Samaritan’s Purse program, Operation Christmas Child. Her beloved friend, Kay Crawford, is finishing Lula Mae’s final hat and it will be donated this Christmas with her picture in that special box.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Rose Hunt and JT Bass; her children’s father, Buster Hines; her husband, Millard “Mike” Michael; and her final sweetheart, Elbert Jordan.
She is survived by her son, Bruce Hines of Lake Butler; daughter-in-law, Elaine Hines of Brooker; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and John Lege, of Sarasota; four grandchildren, Kevin Hines, Jamie Collins, Amy Maillis and Mandy Castleberry; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; her beloved bonus children and grandchildren with Mike and Elbert; her treasured nieces and nephews and her Plantation Oaks "family".
The family will receive friends Friday, September 23, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Williams Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, Newberry, FL. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Summit Baptist Church, 210 NE Santa Fe Blvd., High Springs, FL 32643 with Pastor Tony Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Redemption Church (formerly Pleasant Hill Baptist Church) Cemetery, 2149 W. CR 232, Bell, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child, in her name. Donations can be mailed to Summit Baptist Church, PO Box 21, High Springs, FL 32655.
