Louis Gregory Foster's Obituary
Louis Gregory Foster passed away on Tuesday March 25, 2025 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on June 9, 1960 to George and Donna Foster.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his daughters, Betsy (Aaron) and Carrie (Matt), and his granddaughters, Vera and Stella, as well as the countless other lives he touched.
Greg dedicated his life to making the lives of those around him better. Days with Greg were filled with joy, passion, and laughter. He selflessly cared for others and lived in such a way that his absence will be felt deeply and by so many.
Greg lived in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Missouri before moving to Rockville, Maryland where he spent the majority of his childhood. In his youth he developed enthusiastic and lifelong interests in Spider-Man, photography, and all sports but especially hockey.
He attended Towson University, where he made life long friends and met the love of his life and wife of over 40 years, Patricia. Together, they built a life where they could have as much fun on a Segway tour of the Bahamas as sitting at home watching tv or listening to an audiobook. Their relationship has served as a shining example of what it means to truly enjoy your partner’s company.
Greg was an exceptional father. He treated every responsibility, from bedtime stories to seemingly endless driving trips, with thoughtfulness, imagination, and care. He showed love openly and often, teaching his children how to do the same. For as much as he gave to Betsy and Carrie, one of his greatest gifts as a parent was how much he loved to talk to and learn from his daughters. The selflessness so apparent in all aspect of his life was always strongest when it came to how he could care for his family.
As a man who already showed so much love to others, his love somehow managed to multiply with the addition of new family members like sons in law and grandchildren. Greg would tell anyone who would listen how much he adored being a grandfather. Together, he and Patricia embarked on an incredible adventure of moving from their Baltimore home of more than 30 years to come to Gainesville and be a part of countless daily moments with Vera and Stella. This brave choice ensured that Grandpa Greg was woven into the fabric of his granddaughters’ lives, just as he had been for his daughters.
Greg spent his career teaching high school math and computer science. First for 37 years in the Baltimore County Public School system before moving to Gainesville where he taught full time for another 2 years at Loften High School. A true educator, even in his retirement, he continued to teach one class period every day and serve as a substitute when needed at Saint Francis Catholic Academy. Throughout his life, Greg was constantly stopped by former students outside of school who wanted to catch up and share how much he meant to them.
Greg’s kindness and care touched the lives of his students, his family, his friends who were like family, casual acquaintances, and every person who handled his carry out orders in the greater Baltimore and Gainesville areas. He showed love and warmth so freely and was loved by so many.
