Lottie Christine Avery Darnell's Obituary
Lottie Darnell, 92 of Gainesville Fl passed away of natural causes on Friday, February 6, 2015. She was born on Christmas Day in 1922 in Georgia.
At a young age she and her mother and two sisters moved to Gainesville, Florida. Shortly after graduating from Gainesville High School in 1942, she joined the Women's Air Corps and met the love of her life Jim Darnell. They married in Memphis, Tennessee in 1946. They both were children of the Great Depression and struggled through poverty. It was their life's goal to provide a college education to their children. As loving military partners for sixty two years they lived throughout the United States and Japan.
She is survived by her twin daughters Norma and Sadie Darnell; her grandson P.J. Fancher (Jen); nephews Howard and Sonny Crown, Tom (Dana) and Bruce (Beth) Petty; niece Louise Powell (Jim) and grandniece Pam (Al) Williamson.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Troas Avery; her husband Jim Darnell; sisters Evelyn (Earl) Jernigan and Katherine (Kitty) (Earl) Petty; grandniece Holli Mikla, son Gary Darnell and granddaughter Sara Christine Fancher.
Lottie was quiet, independent and introspective. She enjoyed the study of words and loved reading which she imparted to her daughters. As part of her professional career, she served at the V.A. Hospital as a self-taught medical transcriptionist. For the last five years, under the skilled care of caregivers at Ayers Health & Rehabilitation Center, Trenton, Fl., and Tri-Counties Haven Hospice, Chiefland, Fl., she blossomed into a social sweetheart earning the nick name "Lottie-di-da".
