Lorna Jean (Yoder) Lawhun's Obituary
Lorna Jean (Yoder) Lawhun went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2024. She was born on May 10, 1927, to Edythe and Nelson Yoder in North Industry, Ohio. Lorna is preceded in death by her husband James H. Lawhun, Jr., and her sister, Laviora (Yoder) Quinn.
In her early years Lorna enjoyed the garden and apple orchard at their home, her collie dog “Pal”, and helping her dad at his small grocery market. From childhood Lorna was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Canton, Ohio. In 1948 Lorna married her high school sweetheart, James H. Lawhun, Jr., and enjoyed 65 years of marriage. She was blessed with three children, 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Lorna graduated from Stephen’s Girls College (Columbia, Missouri) in 1948. She always enjoyed secretarial work from her first job as a purchasing agent at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio to assisting her husband, Jim, at his CPA firm. Lorna was an active volunteer with Jaycees wives, Jaycettes, in Canton, Ohio and served as president of the Jaycettes. Later in life she volunteered at East Naples United Methodist Church in Naples, Florida. Lorna has been a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 596 for 77 years.
Lorna was a devoted wife to Jim and a loving mother to her three children, James Nelson Lawhun, Brenda Lee Burrows, and Laura L. Lenhart. She resided in Canton, Ohio until 1975 when Lorna and Jim moved to Naples, Florida for retirement.
Lorna always enjoyed her many friends, her pet cats, fishing in the Gulf, and traveling. One of her favorite trips was with Jim to Hawaii, and she loved camping in their motorhome. She and Jim made many memories of taking their grandchildren on motorhome trips.
A memorial service will be held at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home in Newberry, Florida on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Immediately after, a celebration of her life lunch will be held at the Lenhart residence. All family and friends are welcome.
