Lois Waters' Obituary
Delois Lee “Lois” (Williams) Waters, age 95 of Gainesville, FL, formerly a longtime resident of Hawthorne, FL, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2021, at Palm Garden Health and Rehabilitation Center of Gainesville. Lois was born on December 20, 1925, in Peach Creek, West Virginia to Homer Lafayette and Dollie Jean Williams. After age 5, she lived in Tennessee, Arkansas where she graduated from Little Rock Central High School, and Oklahoma. In 1945, while living in Seminole, Oklahoma Lois met and married her husband, John, who was in the navy and stationed there. They relocated to Hawthorne where she remained until his death in 2006.
Lois was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hawthorne, the Hawthorne Woman’s Club, a charter member of the Ladies Axillary of American Legion Post 230, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Red Hat Society, Inc. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, sewing, doing crafts, and spending time with her family and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, John Madison Waters Sr, and son, John Madison Waters Jr. She is survived by daughters, Linda Waters-Funk (John), Judith Waters (Sally), son, Michael Waters (Christina), 7 grandchildren, John III, James (Pamela) and Jeannie (Mike), Michelle (John), Ian, Priscilla (Graham) and Hannah; 8 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Hawthorne Cemetery, Hwy 20 East, with Pastor Henry McKenny officiating. The family will receive friends and family one half hour prior to the service beginning at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to your local community hospice. Special thanks to the caregivers at Palm Garden, hospice and Emily’s Home Care who took care of our Mama.
