Linda A. Avery's Obituary
Linda A. Avery, age 63 of Gainesville, FL passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness. She is remembered as a loving and loyal wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was born January 22, 1952 in Sioux City, IA to Gerhardt and Helen Snow Gutenkauf.
Linda received her B.A. in history from the University of Illinois (1974) and her M.S. in Library Science from Florida State University (1988).
Linda’s interests included classic movies, Broadway shows, Judy Garland, travel, and spending time with family and friends. She had a unique personal style and a flair for decorating.
Linda contributed time, talent and energy to several volunteer organizations but is particularly remembered for her personal involvement and devotion in helping numerous members of the Gainesville community.
She is survived by her husband Paul Avery, daughter, Lisa Avery both of Gainesville FL; mother, Helen Gutenkauf of Gonzales, LA; sisters, Diane Gutenkauf Babin (Louis) and Donna Gutenkauf Boudreaux (David) both of Gonzales, LA and 15 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Gerhardt Gutenkauf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 N.W. 43 Street, with Fr. John Philips as celebrant. The family will receive friends Friday, February 20, 2015 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. Private burial will be in Hope Haven Cemetery in Gonzales, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, FL 32606.
