Leonie V. Cooper's Obituary
Mrs. Leonie V. Cooper better known as Lonie in her family circles. She departed this world on March 10, 2023 in Canton, Georgia to a land that is free from sickness, suffering and death.
Seventy-four years ago on November 7, 1948 the union of Joscelyn Williams and the late Alice E Williams both of Jamaican origin gave birth to Leonie Viola Williams in St. Elizabeth Jamaica. She was one of six siblings. One of which preceded her in death.
In 1968 she was joined in matrimony to Winston C. Buddle to which they had two children. She married a second time to Prentice P. Cooper in 1986 and she was joined with two stepchildren.
At the age of nine Leonie’s family moved to the United States to which she became a citizen. She attended most of her childhood schooling in Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from Weaver High School in Hartford. Her working career was mostly centered in the area of banking and medical office administration. Where her last place of employment was Vitreo Retinal Associates of Gainesville Florida, helping people with vision impairment.
Mrs. Cooper was most active in her church, Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church in Hawthorne, Florida where she participated in many ministries. She sang in the choir, help count and record the Sunday collections, served as one of the Eucharistic Ministers, help serve the poor and elderly in the community and assisted in keeping the church in flowers on those most special days of the year.
Left to remember and cherish Leonie’s life are her husband, Prentice P. Cooper of Hawthorne, Florida; son, Winston his spouse Aqua Buddle of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Nicole Buddle-Diaz of Canton, GA; two stepdaughters, Kimberlee and her spouse Steven Edwards of Jacksonville, Florida and Tiffany L. Cooper of Homestead, Florida; sister, Connie Hollins of Silver Springs, Florida; three brothers, Kingsley Williams, Bill Williams and Garnett and his spouse, Cynthia Williams of Hartford, Connecticut; grandchildren, Olivia, Ava, Winston, Daniel, Khayla, Sierra, Kevyn and Kiara and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joscelyn Williams, her brother, Glen Williams and her son-in-law, Raymond Diaz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 25, 2023 at10:00 a.m. at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church, S. Hwy 301 South. The family will receive friends Friday, March 24, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Hawthorne, 22205 SE 69th Avenue, Hawthorne.
