Lawrence "Larry" Harold Mannick's Obituary
Lawrence “Larry” Harold Mannick was born May 23, 1945, in Pensacola, FL to Harold and Ruby Mannick. As an infant he lived in Pensacola while his father served as a flight instructor at Pensacola Naval Air Station during WWII. As a young boy he lived in Hagerstown, MD And Dayton, OH where he enjoyed spending time with his cousins and other relatives. When Larry was in high school his family relocated to Atlanta, GA. where he became the star player of the basketball team at South West High School. It was at that school where Larry met the love of his life, Michelle Smith, who was his wife of 56 years and with whom he is reunited in heaven.
During their early marriage, Larry enlisted with the Air Force Reserves and was stationed in Germany as an engine mechanic working on airplanes. Once home, Larry attended Georgia State University where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1975. The degree was earned while he was working full time supporting his family, attending night school and trying to study with two young daughters in the home. His lifelong career revolved around residential appliances and Larry worked for Sears Contract Sales striking deals with home builders and developers. He received a promotion to Regional Manager with Sears Contract Sales and returned back to his birthplace of Pensacola, FL during the Gulf Coast building boom of the 1980s.
After many years with Sears, Larry branched out in 1992 and was one of the founding members of Builder’s Resource Group (B.R.G.) in Pensacola where they dealt in high-end home appliances. Due to his extensive knowledge of the appliance industry, he was sought after by Ferguson Corporation to help them enter the market of luxury appliances. It was during that new season that Larry and Michelle relocated to De Bary, FL where he worked at the Ferguson showroom in Orlando. During his time at Ferguson, he enjoyed meeting clients from all over the world as he assisted them with their projects using the most current, top of the line home appliances. Larry retired and in 2019 Larry and Michelle relocated to High Springs, FL.
Larry is survived by his daughters Nicole (Jason) and Krista (David). Larry was an integral part of Michelle being reunited with her son Mark (Deborah) in the year 2018. Upon meeting, Larry was welcomed into Mark’s family and was lovingly called “Grandpa Larry” by Mark’s children Isaac (Emma), Dietrich and Jovanna. Larry was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, watching sports, and always loved a good meal. He was a friendly, generous person who never met a stranger. Larry was a pancreatic cancer survivor of almost 5 years and at the age of 77, he was baptized and became a member of Redemption Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, FL. He spent his years of retirement enjoying time with family and friends both old and new. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing and will be greatly missed by many.
Funeral Services to Honor Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Williams-Thomas Westarea Chapel, 823 NW 143rd St. Newberry, FL with Pastor Joel Fick officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tunnel To Towers Foundation at t2t.org, which was an organization that Larry proudly supported.
