Larry Walter Kirkconnell's Obituary
Larry Walter Kirkconnell, age 78, passed peacefully at home in Gainesville, Florida on September 15, 2023 after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry and his wife Lynn built a life of love, kindness, and laughter for their many friends and loved ones, founded on their deep faith in God and Jesus Christ.
Larry was the son of Walter and Cassie Scott Kirkconnell, who immigrated to Tampa from Cayman Brac; Larry was fiercely proud of his Caymanian heritage and his family’s connection to the shipping and nautical industries and shared this love with his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Larry was raised in Tampa and was a graduate of the Plant High School class of 1962 and the University of Florida. He remained a passionate Gator throughout his life. Larry served the United States in the US Army and as a field economist at the Bureau of Labor Statistics for the federal government. He was a dedicated Scoutmaster who guided many young men to become Eagle Scouts, including both of his sons, James and Timothy. He was a kind and good-humored soccer coach for his daughter Mary Ann. He was the clear favorite of dogs Festus, Wags, and Pebbles.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Kirkconnell (neé Workizer); children Mary Ann Kirkconnell Hall (sons Ezekiel and Isaac), James Walter Kirkconnell (wife Stephanie Kirkconnell, daughters Ana and Julia), and Timothy Scott Daniel Kirkconnell (wife Jennifer, daughter Aurora); and his niece Laura Kirkconnell Tatuch (husband Martin) and nephews Glenn Kirkconnell (wife Leslee) and Carl Kirkconnell (wife DeEtte), as well as beloved extended family in Tampa Bay, Grand Cayman, and Cayman Brac.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, Newberry, FL, 823 NW 143rd street with Dr. Don McGarity officiating. Larry will be laid to rest at Royal Palm Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida. A memorial service will also be held in Georgetown, Grand Cayman.
