Larry Ernest Hall's Obituary
Larry Ernest Hall ‘Derby’, 68, passed away Tuesday November 8, 2016, at North Florida Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born at East Coast Hospital St. Augustine, FL on March 4, 1948 to Ernest Hall Jr., and Ethel Pauline Bradshaw. He grew up in Palatka, FL. and attended Palatka Senior High School where he was a member of the FFA. In 1965 he enlisted in the United States Navy, after completing basic training in Great Lakes Illinois, he was stationed at NAS San Diego, CA. He served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk CVA 63-VAW 114 and made 2 cruises to Vietnam. He retired from Florida Gas Transmission (Enron) in 1999 after 30 years.
Returning home from the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart ‘Mona’ Kay Kennedy on September 9, 1969 in Lake City, FL after spending a year in La Crosse, FL. they moved to Alachua, FL.
Larry was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors, he enjoyed Civil War Re-enacting serving on an artillery crew. In his early years he enjoyed bull riding and participated in several local rodeos.
Mostly Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and feeding his squirrels, ‘Charlie Brown’ and ‘Charlene’.
Larry was a 7th Generation Florida Pioneer, he was a Life member of the Kitty Hawk Veterans Association, Life member and past Commander of Madison Starke Perry Sons of Confederate Veteran’s Camp 1424, and recipient of the SCV War Service Medal member, Adjutant of the David Lang Chapter #202 Military Order of the Stars and Bars and recipient of MOS&B Southern Cross of Military Service. A member of the Gainesville Chapter National Society Sons of the American Revolution and the SAR Veterans Battalion also receiving the SAR Military Service Medal. He also received a certificate of Recognition for Vietnam Service from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Palatka Lodge 184. Larry was a Founding member and past president of Gids Bay Hunt Club, Clay County, FL. He was active for many years in Cub Scout Pack 88, Alachua and a Charter member of the Alachua Historical Society. In 1987 he was a Charter member of Salem Southern Baptist Church, Clay County, FL when it reorganized. But most recently attended Forest Grove Baptist Church, Alachua.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kay; two sons, Kenny (Connie) Hall Keystone Heights, FL and Lee Hall Alachua, FL. One brother, Joey (Missy) Hall Palatka, FL. Grandchildren, Amanda Hall (Stuart) High Springs, Courtney Hall Gainesville, Aidan and Gavin Hall Gainesville, Carlee Hall Alachua, and Logan Lee High Springs and one great grandson, Brantley Smith High Springs one niece Brandi Mae Hall Jacksonville, FL and many aunts and uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved bull dog Delta Dawn.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Grove Baptist Church, 22575 NW 94th Ave, Alachua with Rev. Arnold O’steen and Rev. Dennis Taber officiating, interment will follow in Forest Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, November 11, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street.
