Lamar G. Taylor's Obituary
Lamar G. Taylor passed away peacefully at his home in Gainesville, Florida on November 11, 2014 surrounded by loving friends and family. A life-long resident of Gainesville, Lamar was a fifth generation of Taylors in Alachua County. He was born December 22, 1937 to Malcolm and Oveda (Boals) Taylor, the first of four children and is survived by them to include Lynda Ann Vickers, Alfred “Butch” Taylor and Clayton D. Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon “Jodee” Taylor. The couple had one daughter, Kaley Anne Behl, who also survives him. He also leaves behind his dear girlfriend, Virginia Phillips.
Lamar worked for the Sperry-Rand Corporation from 1956-1972 and also as a deputy sheriff for the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office from 1972 until 1996, primarily working as a crime scene investigator. He attended the Archer Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed, fishing, photography, gardening, southern gospel music, restoring antique cars and watching auto racing.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Archer Church of the Nazarene, 13327 State Road 45, Archer, with Pastor Larry Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 401 SE 21st Avenue in Gainesville. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 5 to 7 pm at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, FL 32606.
