Kurt Orwick's Obituary
Long Time Gainesville resident and Gator fan, KURT ORWICK 74, died on August 28, 2020, with his wife, Patty by his side. He was born on December 4, 1945 to Dana Bishop and Carmen Ault Orwick.
He received his Bachelor of Arts, and his Master of Education from the University of Florida. Kurt taught English and drama in Alachua county schools.
Kurt and his wife owned and operated The Cartridge Family, Inc. of Gainesville for 26 years.
Kurt was a very accomplished actor, performing in such Blockbusters, as Frank Butler in “Annie Get your Gun”, Shelley Levene in “GlenGarry GlenRoss”, Petruchio in “Kiss me Kate”, Clement Musgrove in “Robber Bridegroom” and George in “Duck Variations”. Kurt acted in such venues as Arena Stage in Washington, DC., The Hippodrome Theatre, High Springs Community Theatre, Santa Fe College, Acrosstown Repertory Theatre, Actor’s Café, NYU, and Gainesville City Playhouse.
Kurt also performed in Hot’l Baltimore, Orpheus Descending, Romeo and Juliet, Butley, Hedda Gabler, Scuba Duba, Marat Sade, White House Murder Case, The Fantasticks, Jimmy Shine, The Lion In Winter, and The Pajama Game.
Kurt was also the tenth through twelfth grade drama and introduction to Drama teacher at Gainesville Highschool. In addition to his responsibilities as a teacher, he directed several main stage productions, participated with his students in State drama competitions and was faculty sponsor of the drama club.
He was an avid reader, and motorcycle enthusiast.
Kurt is survived by his wife of 20 years, Patty, son; Randall Bishop Orwick of Antioch TN. and his stepchildren; Sarah Hamilton of Cedar Park, TX. and Eric Blalock of Gainesville, FL. Kurt is also survived by his first Grandchild who is on the way! And three step Grandchildren.
A Celebration of Kurt’s life will be held THURSDAY September 3, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The service will begin at 6:00pm with a reception to follow at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 N. Main St.
