Kristin Babik's Obituary
Kristin Amanda Babik, 31, of Gainesville, FL, passed away on November 30, 2024. Born on May 17, 1993, Kristin was a bright, witty, and compassionate individual who dedicated her life to helping others. Known for her clever sense humor, she was an absolute joy to be around. She was very musically talented, and she composed, sang, and recorded many original songs. With her unwavering kindness, she touched the lives of everyone around her. Throughout her life, she was committed to volunteering and advocating for those in need.
Kristin’s strength and resilience were truly remarkable. In 2017, she was among those tragically shot in the Las Vegas shooting, suffering severe physical and emotional trauma. In national and local interviews after the shooting, Kristin shared "I actually painted a tile at the memorial garden in Vegas, and I put a quote from Corinthian's: Let light shine out of darkness.”
Despite enduring long-term recovery and the effects of PTSD, Kristin pushed forward, completing her law degree at the University of Florida and earning a Master of Health Law from the University of Washington. She passed the California Bar and worked for a short time as a lawyer in Los Angeles before psychiatric symptoms related to the shooting made it difficult for her to continue. She continued her work locally with AmeriCorps, using her experience in law to help build homes for those in need, and also explored new entrepreneurial ventures.
Kristin is survived by her loving parents, Steve and Betty Babik; grandmother, Marge Babik; brother, Jeff Babik; sister-in-law, Heidi Babik; nephew, Woods Babik; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kristin passed away from a cardiac event brought on by the long-term effects of trauma and related health complications. Her courage, determination, and heart for service will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The Babik family is hosting a Memorial Gathering for Kristin on December 5th from 5-7 p.m. located at Williams Thomas Funeral Home - 404 N Main St, Gainesville, FL 32601.
In lieu of flowers, the Babik family asks for your support in funding the Kristin A. Babik Health Law Scholarship at the University of Florida. Their hope is she can continue her dream of helping others, even though she is not with us anymore. Donations can be made online through GoFundMe.
