Kenneth Eugene Powell's Obituary
Kenneth E. Powell, 92, of Old Town, FL died Saturday, May 31, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ken is survived by Babs, his loving, devoted wife of 37 years; daughters, Connie North, Karen Lechthaler (Don), Kimberly Brand; stepsons, William 'Bunky' Baldree (Lisa), Barry Baldree, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grand children, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Raymond and Philip.
During Ken's 23 year career in the Navy, he sailed around the world during WWII and the Korean War. He also taught math at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Ken possessed amazing mechanical abilities; fixing anything he got his hands on, building a steel barge and tugboat for his marine construction business in Maryland and making parts and tools for his land clearing machinery in Florida. He had a natural gift for imparting knowledge and teaching others.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday June 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 4050 NW US Hwy 27 Alt, Chiefland, with Fr Joseph McDonald as celebrant. The family wishes to thank Haven Hospice, especially Missy and Nancy, for their loving, compassionate care during his final months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice of 311 NE 9th Street, Chiefland FL 32626.
