Kathleen Murphy's Obituary
Kathleen "Phyllis" Murphy (Quigley), 82, died quietly and comfortably after a three year struggle with Corticobasal Syndrome in her home at Azalea Trace in Gainesville, FL. Phyllis was born to a farmer, Thomas, and his wife, Kathleen Quigley in 1936 in Inniskeen, Ireland; At the age of 18 Phyllis moved to Liverpool to complete her studies in nursing. Upon her completion of degree at 21, she emigrated from the UK to the U.S. where she would eventually achieve Head Nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and where she met her husband, Ed Murphy. After making multiple moves associated with her husband's career, the Murphy family eventually settled in Gainesville in 1977. Within a year she lost her husband suddenly due to a congenital heart defect, and remained in Gainesville raising her three young children. Phyllis devoted her time to various activities, including Alz place and the welcoming committee at Queen of Peace and the Village. Phyllis always had a smile for new friends and old friends and could always charm with her quick Irish wit.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Boothe (Jeff Boothe), her son, Brian Murphy (Sara Murphy), and grandsons, Connor Boothe and Elliott Murphy. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters Annie, Detta and Joan. She is predeceased by her husband, Edmund J. Murphy, son, Sean P. Murphy and her brothers, Thomas, Patrick, Bennie, and Basil Quigley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 SW 24th Ave, with Fr. Al Esposito as celebrant. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, 401 SE 21 Ave. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 291 Southhall Lane, Suite 105, Maitland, FL 32751, or Alzheimer’s Association, 2180 W State Road 434, Suite 1100, Longwood, FL 32779.
