Karen Silver Fuhr's Obituary
Karen Silver Fuhr, of Gainesville, FL, lost her battle with cancer on April 19, 2026 at the age of 78. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Karen did her undergraduate studies at George Washington University and her graduate work at NYU.
She began her career teaching first grade but quickly found her passion for teaching high school math. She later settled in Gainesville in 1980 where she was a math professor at Santa Fe College from which she retired in 2015.
Throughout her teaching career she presented at many state and national math conferences. Traveling the country as a consultant, she thoroughly enjoyed creating and facilitating national and international math workshops for secondary and post-secondary educators.
She is survived by her daughters Nicole Crunden (Matthew), Carrie Ann Donnell, and Alicia Sitren; her bonus children Rick Fuhr (Tisha), Alison Fraga (Alex), Jackie Stancel (Matt); her grandchildren Sadie Crunden, Reese and Cameren Stancel, Alexander Fraga, and Matthew and Madison Fuhr; her half-sisters Jo Esman and Dava Esman; and her many cherished friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Philip Fuhr, her wonderful parents, Harry and Eleanor Silver, and her dear brother, Charles Silver.
Memorial service will be held May 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Williams-Thomas Funeral Home 404 N. Main St., Gainesville, FL 32601. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The National Education Association Foundation.
