Julia Mae Leitner's Obituary
Julia Mae Leitner, of Citra, passed away Saturday, June 5th, 2021, in Gainesville, Florida at the age of 100. Julia was born in McIntosh, Florida at her home in 1920 where she had eight brothers and sisters. She was the last surviving member of her siblings. She was a retired bookkeeper from Franklin Crates in Micanopy, Florida. She was also a homemaker for her husband, G.P., and three children. She was a part of the Leitner family. A pioneer family that has been in Marion County for 161 years.
Julia Mae was preceded in death by her husband G.P. Leitner, and her daughter Helen Leitner-Ingrao. She is survived by her two sons George Leitner of Citra and Phil Leitner of Gainesville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Justin Leitner of Citra, Carrie Leitner of Tallahassee, Kelly Leitner of Gainesville, and her two great grandchildren, Bailey and Bristol Leitner.
Julia Mae married G.P. Leitner in 1939. They were happily married until his death in 1996. They lived on a farm with their three children, where they raised them to be hard working and dedicated. Julia and G.P. were immensely proud that all three of their children took those ethics to heart and all became college graduates.
Julia Mae was the oldest living member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church. In her earlier years she frequently could be found teaching Sunday school. She loved to have any excuse to get her family together. Nothing pleased her more than to be surrounded by her loving husband, sons, daughter, and siblings.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, in Micanopy. The family requests face coverings be worn at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
