Joseph (Joe) L. Griffin's Obituary
Joseph Griffin (Joe), age 20 passed away suddenly on January 19, 2021 in Jonesville, FL. He was born on March 24, 2000, to Patrick and Amanda Griffin in Bethesda, MD.
Joe was born and raised in Maryland until moving to Florida at the of age 15. He was fascinated by history and loved visiting war memorials; Gettysburg PA was one of his favorite places to visit. Despite being diagnosed with a neurological condition Joe was able convince to his doctors into clearing him to play high school football. Joe was so proud to see his family cheering him on at his first game.
Joe loved his huge family; he had many brothers and one very special sister who would always steal his sweatshirts and bum rides to Starbucks. Joe doted on his mother, he never passed by her without giving her a kiss on the forehead and saying, “love you mama.” Joe made sure she always had her lunch... even if it was a day-old quesadilla; and he would bring her flowers at work just because. He devoted his life to his family, his friends, and his beloved pets. His two dogs Tashi and Electra were by his side until they passed. Joe was also infamous for his ability to find and love stray cats. His cat Zimba was his most recent partner. He would take him on long bike rides in his backpack whenever no one was looking.
Joe graduated from Newberry high school in 2018, he made many friends in school and around the community. While still maintaining close connections to his friends and family in Maryland.
Joe loved to cook, he started his career at cilantro tacos managing their food truck services. He loved working with food, meeting new people and learning about the food in the restaurant industry. recently he accepted a position at Whole Foods and was excited to start his new journey in life.
In an effort to expand his knowledge Joe had recently started an IT class with hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps. In his free time Joe also enjoyed gaming, strategizing, and sometimes cussing at his PS4.
Joe loved Christmas. He never misses a trip to the Christmas tree farm with Jaxon, kolton and Katie to chop down the Christmas tree. He never missed an opportunity with Eric and Luke to build a gingerbread house. He loved playing baseball, video games, and building very elaborate pillow forts with all of his siblings.
Joe loved to drive and did not hesitate to travel the 16 hours from Florida to Maryland just to surprise his family. Joe loved family vacations, he was always finding ways to make everyone laugh and never had a problem making friends wherever he went.
Joe brought life and love everywhere he went. He was a force that brought others to him, by being both kind and thoughtful. He was a selfless son and brother. He will be missed terribly, but will live on in our hearts for eternity.
Joe is survived by his mother, Amanda Griffin-Zonin and her fiancé Dion Atchison, and his father, Patrick Griffin and step-mother, Amy Griffin; stepfather, Bryon Zonin,; grandparents, Mack Griffin, Barry and Michelle Reynolds; great-grandmother, Merle Groff; sister; Katie Zonin, and brothers; Jaxon Zonin, Kolton Zonin, Eric Griffin, and Luke Griffin; Eric Grossnickle, Peyton Atchison, Weston Atchison and Caycen Atchison
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 25th 5:30 PM at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME 843 N.W. 143rd street Newberry. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the Ronald McDonald House www.rmch.org.
