Joseph Charles Moretta's Obituary
On the morning of July 31, 2022, Joseph Charles Moretta entered his heavenly home from Haven
Hospice. Joe was born to Joseph James and Marjorie Fogle Moretta in Chicago, IL, on July 10, 1938. His
mother and father, his sister Sandra and brother Gino, and his son Bruce James preceded Joe in death.
His sister Susanna (Alea) survives him.
In the summer of 1962, Joe met his beloved wife of sixty years, Jo, at the University of Florida, where he
was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and Pi Kappa Phi Honorary Fraternity. He earned both Bachelor’s
and Master's degrees from UF. After completing his studies, Joe became a history teacher at Howard
Bishop Middle School. For thirty-four years "Mr. Mo" delighted in his students and regaled his family
with classroom stories. Each student was a significant person in Mr. Mo's life.
Joe leaves behind a family he adored: wife Jo, son JC (Dawn), daughter Pam Farrar (Terry), grandchildren
Tiffany Bugera (Pavel), Michael Sands, Jordan Moretta, Tucker Moretta, and Marshall Moretta. He also
leaves three precious great-grandchildren, Nikolai, Aleksander, and Viktoriya Bugera, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Though we mourn his passing, we know that our "HeyBudd" is in his heavenly home -a place without
pain or suffering. We are grateful to everyone who helped Joe in the last weeks of his struggles here,
especially the staff at Shands UF Hospital and Haven Hospice.
A private family service will be held.
