Johnny "John" Mack Brown's Obituary
Johnny “John” Mack Brown, at the age of 95, passed away on February 15, 2025, in Gainesville, Florida. He was born on January 26, 1930, in Blountstown, Florida, to Porter Ause Brown, Sr and Vitino C. Lloyd Brown.
He graduated from Blountstown High School. He joined the Army in 1948, a Korean Veteran. John graduated from the University of Florida in 1957. He worked in Environmental Health and retired as the Director of Environmental Health in Arcadia. He volunteered as an Ombudsman for Elder Affairs for ten years after retirement. He was a founding member of Holy Faith Catholic Church and also served as an usher.
John was a member of the American Legion Post 149 in Newberry Florida. He served as a past Commander, District Commander, Chaplain, and was a member of the 40&8, VFW, and DAV.
John enjoyed running and was a member of the Florida Track Club. He ran five marathons and many triathlons. He ran in Atlanta during the 1996 Olympics, the New York Marathon, the Chicago Marathon, and the Blue Angels Marathon. John also loved watching cartoons and western movies.
He is survived by his children, Karen Brown Williams and John Lee Brown; brother, Ause Brown (Leveda); and grandchildren, Caitlin Marie Williams and Zachary Hunter Brown. He is preceded by his sisters, Modi Wynne, Gracie Rothschild, and Cupid McClellan.
A Funeral Mass for John will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 NW 43rd St, Gainesville, FL, 32607, with Fr. Jose Kulathinal as celebrant.
Graveside service with Military Honors will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Newberry Cemetery, 25909 SW 15th Ave, Newberry, FL, 32669.
