John William Newland III's Obituary
On Friday, August 23rd, 2024, John William Newland III (Jack), 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. John was born March 16, 1942, in Iowa. He grew up the eldest of six siblings in Hamburg, NY, attending Hamburg High School. He graduated from New York State Technical Institute at Alfred with a degree in Electrical Technology in 1962, participating in the College Rifle Team and Institute of Radio Engineers. After graduation, he worked in Rochester, NY as a Production Technician at General Dynamics and Bausch & Lomb before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He ventured down to sunny Florida to serve as a Radar Technician at the Homestead Air Force Base from 1963-1965. He attended First Baptist Church of Homestead, where he met his wife, Belvia, and was ordained as a deacon. After his time in service, he worked at various photocopy companies as a Technical Representative/Assistant, Branch and Dealer Service Managers, National Dealer Sales Manager, and National Accounts Service Coordinator. His most memorable time was with Saxon providing technical training throughout the U.S., Canada, Venezuela, England, Germany, Holland, Italy, Austria, and Lebanon and loved to talk about it, with “Beruit, Lebanon” being his last consistent phrase in the end-stages of dementia. He attended First Baptist Church of Perrine, now Christ Fellowship, where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon. His hobbies included boating sports, golf, and bowling. In 2010, to be closer to family, Belvia and John moved to Gainesville, FL where they got involved at Westside Baptist Church.
John was preceded in death by his parents John and Miriam Newland. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Belvia Newland; a son, John Newland; a daughter, Allison Jamison (Jeff); two grandchildren, Adelaide and Donovan Jamison; two brothers, Doug and Kevin Newland; three sisters, Mary Jo Meader, Patty Dezemplen Heinly, and Diane Holtz; along with brothers- and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life for John will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Williams-Thomas Westarea Chapel 823 NW 143rd Street, Newberry, Florida with Dr. David Chauncey presiding.
