Will miss a LIFE LONG FRIEND!
John will be missed by so many of us. He was never without a story that would elicit tears of laughter. So many years of skeet shooting together at the Gator Skeet and Trap Club- more than thirty- so many dove hunts, never once in my years of hunting with him without Ced. God, we all loved that dog: he was his father's boy. Wherever John was, Ced was only feet away. They did love each other.
My fantasy, I guess, is Ced and John are someplace in a huge field with the occasional oak, a quiet fall day waiting for the birds to come in.
Of all his friends I was so fortunate to meet, each had endless stories ranging from his younger days to a recent dove hunt. No one will ever forget his roguish grin, pork pie hat and incredible sense of humor. Thanks for the memories,
Your friend, Ray Bergeron

I first met John 5 years ago when I joined the Gator Hunt Club and had the pleasure of getting to know him over those few short years. After my second year in the club I acquired a Boykin Spaniel pup named Lincoln. The first time I brought Lincoln to the dove field, we got out of the truck, John saw us immediately and headed straight for us. For the next three seasons John always made a fuss over Lincoln and told him what a great dog he was. John gave me plenty of tips and pointers on how to raise a gentleman's gun dog. I don't think Lincoln and I will ever go to a dove field again without thinking about John and the impact he had on me and my little brown dog.
Happy Hunting my friend,
Scott Kornegay
I'm Bob Jones, I worked for John at Heritage Paper Company for 35 years. When I first started there he took me into his home for the night and I met his wife Kay, we worked the next day and he showed me the ropes in Gainesville and how to do things the right way .
John and his wife Kay were very gracious hosts and I felt right at home. I think the way he treated me and mentored me was a big reason I stayed in the business and I am still in the business today.
I'll never forget the conversations we had about cars and boats and all of the great times.
I will miss him!
My sincere condolences to the family.

I feel so lucky that my father, from quite a different southern background, was fortunate to meet and become good friends with John and Kay in college because in turn, I was able to know him and his family. My memories will always be of his smile, wit, teasing, and graciousness when we visited or when his family came to see us over the years at the lake house. He would sharpen all our knives, entertain everyone with hilarious stories and comments, and invariably end up playing with us, the children, down by the water. Throughout my lifetime he would always greet me with the phrase "I'm going to throw you in that lake", I think one time it actually happened. He and his family will always hold a very special place in the heart of mine. He genuinely was a true Southern gentleman. I love him and will miss him dearly.
I will never forget my friend John A. He was indeed a hell of a wing shot. My thoughts & prayers are with his family. - Respectfully, Phil DeLaney
