John Lawrence Michlik's Obituary
John Lawrence Michlik, born on August 10, 1930, in Manhattan, New York, passed away June 7, 2024. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Joan; his parents, John and Helen Michlik; his brothers, Edward and Richard; and his grandchildren, Bryan and Melissa, and great-grandchild Hannah. John spent a significant portion of his career at Fairchild Republic, where he worked for 35 years, notably contributing as a machinist to the construction of the A-10 Attack Air Craft and the Lunar Module.
After retiring, John moved from Long Island to Florida in 1988. A service-connected veteran of the Naval Air Reserve, he dedicated much of his retirement to his family, traveling, and ministry work, including a significant role in prison ministry services.
John is survived by his siblings; Elizabeth Ann, Martin and Robert, his children, William Michlik (Claudine), Diane Jomisko (William), Laura Thornton (Joseph), and George Michlik (Dee), along with 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was an active member of Saint Teresa Church in Jasper for nearly 30 years and more recently registered with Saint Madeleine’s Catholic Church in High Springs.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Malcom Randall Veterans Hospital, Plantation Oaks Memory Care Unit and Vitas Hospice Care for ensuring his final months were peaceful.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Madeleine Catholic Church 17155 N.W. US Hwy 441 High Springs, FL., with Fr. Sebastian George. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 am. The burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery 427 15th Ave NW, Jasper, Florida. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John’s memory to Slovak Catholic Federation Dolores M.
