John Edward "Jed" Merrill Jr.'s Obituary
John Edward “Jed” Merrill, Jr., died October 14, 2014 in Gainesville, Florida. He was born on July 10, 1944 in Jacksonville, Florida to John E. Merrill and Elizabeth “Libba” J. Merrill who preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter Kristin E. Reynolds (Rich) of Livermore, CA and his grandchildren, Parker and Jordan. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles R. “Ray” Merrill and Thomas “Tommy” L. Merrill (Nora) of Gainesville, FL, his uncle and aunt, Robert and Beverly Johnson of Atlantic Beach, FL and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1963. He attended Gordon Military College in Barnesville, GA and Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. He was a Realtor for over 40 years in his family’s real estate firm, John Merrill Inc. Realtors. He specialized in acreage and commercial properties. He was active in the Gainesville-Alachua County Association of Realtors. He served on many committees of the association over the years. He retired in 2006.
He was an avid golfer and loved fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his daughter and her family. He was a Methodist. The family wishes to thank his many friends and acquaintances who shared their care and concern. A private family memorial will be held at Lake Weir in Marion County. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
