John Early Thrasher III, age 93, of Micanopy passed away on June 4, 2022 at Oak Hammock. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Gretchen Keller Thrasher, his parents John Early Thrasher Jr. and Raymond ‘Rae’ O’N Read Obituary
We met John and Elnore while doing genealogy. She is a distant cousin to my father, Charles Loehr. We would visit with them every year when we came to Florida. She was an excellent cook. One year they would visit us in Daytona Beach and the next we would go to their lovely home. So enjoyed our time together. May they both be dancing together again. May they rest in peace. John, I remember meeting you at the beginning of the 1969-70 school year at Lake Shore Junior High School in Jacksonville, Fl. This is where our decades long friendship began.
I always admired the kindness and compassion you showed to the students. When you retired you gave me the great pleasure of designing and drawing the architectural plans for the barn and your home in Micanopy. My wife and I enjoyed many visits with you and Eleanor over the years and always loved listening to the stories you would tell about the Thrasher family history and the history of Micanopy. John E. Thrasher will be missed by his many “cousins” in the Thrasher Family Association. John referred to himself as “John E” to deal with the over-abundance of John Thrashers in the TFA, both past and present. John E was a long-time member of the Thrasher Family Association and served as the association’s chairman for many years. After he chose to “retire” from the chairmanship, the association bestowed the title of Chairman Emeritus on him to recognize his past and continuing contributions to the TFA. The TFA is planning to recognize John E’s many contributions to our family association and to his community July 22-24 at the 2022 TFA Reunion in Micanopy.
