Joel S. Brewer's Obituary
Joel S. Brewer, 55, of Gainesville, Florida, died unexpectedly on April 29, 2024. He was born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1969 but became a resident of Florida in 1972. Joel grew up in and around Alachua, Bradford, and Union counties, and graduated from Bradford High School in 1987. Joel attended Santa Fe Community College and later graduated the local IBEW Journeyman Electrical Program. Joel was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1205, and worked for many years as a union electrician. For the past decade Joel was employed as an electrician and fire alarm specialist at the University of Florida, Division of Housing. Joel was an avid Gator sports fan and was proud to work at UF. He enjoyed the outdoors including hunting, fishing, and especially time spent with family in the Florida panhandle at the Scott ranch. Joel was a talented woodworker and could build or fix anything. He was known to all as a fun-loving, good-hearted person. More than anything Joel loved his family—and was especially proud of his son, Colt W. Brewer.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Stacy A. Scott, and their son, Colt W. Brewer; as well as his parents, Daryl S. and Nancy D. Brewer of Lake Butler; two sisters, Erin Brewer and Anneke Acree (Jay); niece, Madison Acree; nephews Jesse Acree, James A. Scott III, and Liam Scott; and many cousins, other relatives, and a host of really good friends.
A Celebration of Life will be offered to family and friends at 11:00 a.m. on June 1, 2024, at First Magnitude Brewing in Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org or to the Alachua County Conservation Trust, www.alachuaconservationtrust.org.
