Joanne Spohn Lyke's Obituary
Mrs. Joanne Spohn Lyke, 82, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Thursday, April 21, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Lyke was born on February 23, 1940, in Ilion, NY to the late Vito and Anna Spohn. She was raised in nearby Frankfort, NY, where she graduated from Frankfort-Schuyler Central School, Class of 1958, and lived in Frankfort for much of her life, before moving to Florida to be closer to her son. Joanne studied Art Therapy at Florida Southern College, and taught Art for many years, most recently at the Monteverde Academy, Monteverde, Florida. She loved art, and in her free time would paint and work with ceramics, making ceramics or painting pictures for her family. Joanne loved to dance and sing karaoke, she would go out with friends and dance and sing as much as possible; she always said to “live life to the fullest”, and that is what she did. Above everything else in her life, her life revolved around her beloved family, and nothing gave her greater joy than any time she spent with them. She would always check in with her brother and sister to make sure she kept up on their family.
She was devoted to her son Michael, daughter in law Stacy and grandchildren Maranda and Anthony, who stayed with her in her final days; they were her world. She also loved her dog, Mr. Wiggles, and she would take him everywhere.
Along with her most immediate family, she is survived by her brother, Michael (Judy) Spohn and her sister Rosalie Spohn Spatol; nieces and nephews Michael (Larnia) Spohn, John Spohn, Cydney Spohn, Stephen (Emiko) Spohn, Heather (Edward II) Potrzeba, and Maryann (Scott) Murray; great nieces and nephews, Sarah Spohn, Cathryn and Rebecca Spohn, Edward III and Charles Potrzeba, and Maria and Joseph Murray.
