Jimmy Collins' Obituary
Jimmy Collins passed away on October 13, 2017 from muscular dystrophy. He was born in New Jersey on October 6, 1967. Jimmy graduated from Ringling School of Art and Design in 1990 with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts- Computer Design. His main interest was computer animation.
He worked for Alachua County as a GIS Programmer Analyst for 24 years. He created Map Genius, a revolutionary on-line tool for obtaining property information all in one place. Jimmy was lauded for his innovative work by Realtors and county officials alike. Jimmy was a talented, imaginative and intelligent individual who was beyond successful in his work and in his ability to overcome many obstacles in his daily life to maintain as independent a life as possible despite his disability. He inspired many with his optimism and fortitude. Jimmy had a great enthusiasm for life, loved holidays and had compassion for others.
He is survived by his mother, Marie Collins; sister, Kathy Winburn (Marc); nephews, Jeremiah and Jacob Winburn; step sister, Susie Lee (Bobby), and nephews, Justin and Anthony Lee.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center, 1714 SW 34th Street, Gainesville, FL. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children's Home Society of Florida (Gainesville/Ocala region).
