I don’t know where to start because of so many fun times, almost always laughing. I can’t count how many times he said “Good Lord Doc”, or “Watch your mouth Doc”, or “You’ve had too many Doc, your slurring your words” (which, by the way, he was not correct!).
But my favorite memory was on my first (of many) golf road trips with Jerry. As usual, he was driving and as usual, when he was ready to eat, we were going to eat, and as usual, he was not going to sit down in whichever fast food place we stopped at, but rather drive through and eat in the car while continuing our travels.
On this particular occasion, we went through Wendy’s and Jerry got chili. Now as I stated earlier, Jerry was driving, and as many of you know, he was left handed. Jerry put the bowl of chili on the center console and would reach across his body with his left hand to get the next bite of chili. Here we are on a 4-lane highway with Jerry determined to stay up with traffic and also meet his minimal daily requirements of fast food through chili, and I thought for sure I was on my first and last golf road trip. After several expletives coming from me as he used the center line like a bumper in a kids bowling lane, and several “Watch your mouth Doc” coming from him, he finally made it through that darn bowl of chili.
Of course, it wasn’t five minutes later that he spotted a Dairy Queen and we were once again pulling off to drive through and once again riding down the highway with Jerry driving with one hand.
