Jerold Redding's Obituary
Jerold Elder Redding, 88, of Hawthorne passed away on July 13, 2024 in Gainesville, Florida. He was a retired USPS Supervisor.
Jerold was born in Orlando, Florida and moved to Gainesville 63 years ago. He served in the Naval Reserve for 8 years.
Jerold was a member of the Glen Springs Road Church of Christ for over 50 years where he served in many ways. He will be remembered and greatly missed for his role as a preacher, teacher, and mentor. He has had a profound impact on many young men over the years as he helped them in their studies so that they too could teach and preach. He will be remembered for his critiques, as well as his encouragement and friendship.
Since his retirement, Jerold has maintained daily office hours at the church building where he was available to do whatever was needed. He would direct repairmen, photocopy teaching material, answer the telephone or door, or just stop to talk to anyone who stopped by. His loved a good laugh and loved any opportunity to gather with the brethren.
Jerold is survived by his son, Thomas J “Tommy” (DeLayne) Redding, of Hawthorne; daughter Elizabeth A “Beth” Hurley of Alachua; brothers Ronald E “Ronnie” (Sue) Batten of Osteen, Florida and Gary L (Tina) Batten of Tifton Georgia; 6 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife, Edith Joann Redding; son, William David Redding, great grandson, Donovan Thomas Redding; parents Ira J and Ethel M Batten; sister, Martha L Dell.
Per his request there will be no funeral or public memorial.
