Jeremy Weathers Martin's Obituary
Jeremy Weathers Martin passed away from stage IV lung cancer at Haven Hospice surrounded by family and friends.
Love is the rebel of rules. Love is outside of time, irreverent to distance, unshackled by opinion, and remains a living edifice that death never overcomes. It carves its permanence using words and actions. Handfuls of these expressions become loving moments and handfuls of these yet become legacies which endure as testaments to love’s singular goal. Love wants to prove it exists. It wants to show us it is real. And it uses very special people to tell its story.
Jeremy was born on a beautiful March day in 1985, 57 seconds before his twin brother Elliott. He was preceded in death by his incredible father, Sidney, Jr., and his grandfather, Sid Martin, Sr., and grandfather and grandmother Nims. He is survived by his mother, Sally Martin; his twin brother, Elliott; his older brother, James and his wife, Taylor; uncles, John Martin and Frank Nims; cousin, Jason Foster; Godfather, Terry Hamilton; girlfriend, Kati Junkins; grandmother Martin and many exceptional friends from Gainesville, Chicago and Lake Forest, Illinois, who have supported him through his valiant battle against this dreadful disease these last seven months.
Jeremy attended P.K. Yonge School from kindergarten through high school. Jeremy graduated from Santa Fe College and enjoyed working as a salesman. Jeremy was All State in both basketball and football during his high school sports career. Jeremy was kind and brave and funny and the best friend that anybody could ever have. He taught us all to live every day to the fullest, to be nice to people, not be judgmental and treat people as you would want them to treat you.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cheryl Hayes, Dr. Frederick Kaye, the extraordinary nurses at 8 East at Shands Cancer Hospital, Ann Mudra and family, the Junkins Family, the Hunt Family, the Baker Family, the Rascati Family, the Strong Family, the Grant Family, the Hamilton Family, Jan, Bob, Debbie, Mary, Shari, Cathy and Haven Hospice for their loving care of my precious son.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., in the gymnasium of Santa Fe College, 3000 NW 83rd Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northwest Boys Club, 2700 NW 51st Street, Gainesville, FL 32606.
