Jennifer Camille Robinson's Obituary
Jennifer Camille Robinson, 45, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully Oct. 30, 2024 after a lengthy illness. Jennifer was a tender-hearted soul with an infectious laugh, a love of children, a soft spot for the underdog, a deep appreciation of nature and fierce loyalty toward her friends. There is no way to describe how much her family and friends will miss her.
Jennifer was born April 1, 1979, and her family promised to never call her an April Fool’s baby. And they did not. They cherished her from day one, and she grew from an adorable baby into a precocious pre-schooler. She attended Stepping Stones Pre-School at Trinity UMC and what was then called Martha Manson Academy. From Martha Manson, she attended Gainesville Country Day School, Oak Hall Middle School and Gainesville High School. Jennifer loved her many friends at Oak Hall Middle School and participated in several school activities, including the cheerleading squad and the volleyball team. She spent her middle school summers at Green Cove Camp in Tuxedo, N.C., near Flat Rock. She developed a deep love for the North Carolina mountains, forests and streams, a love that never left her, even though she loved her Florida beaches.
During her growing-up years in Gainesville, Jennifer loved her church, Trinity United Methodist, and eagerly attended Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She took the Disciple Bible Study class in high school and went on a three-day spiritual renewal weekend in Leesburg, Fla. called Chrysalis. Her faith in Jesus Christ was an essential part of her being and the way she lived her life.
At Gainesville High, she played softball, ran cross country, was a member of the National Honor Society and was a National Merit Finalist. Her straight As and a facility in math made her a strong candidate for many of the South’s finest universities. She chose the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, attending UNC after graduating from GHS in 1997. There, she majored in psychology. She attended the University of New South Wales in Sydney for her study abroad program during her sophomore year. During her summers, she served as a nanny and babysitter for several Gainesville families. Children were her first love.
As a young woman and college student, Jennifer developed profound depression, an illness that was not spoken of broadly at that time. She sought help during college and saw therapists to help her overcome that illness. Her condition worsened, and she never fully recovered. She never married or had children. The promises of her early life were never realized, and she lived in great sadness and sorrow the second part of her life. Her heartbroken family wishes to send a message to all young people who battle mental illness that there is no shame in malfunctions of the brain and that help is available. They also share a profound sense of compassion for people who suffer from depression, other mental illnesses and their families. In gratitude, they thank the loyal friends and family who supported Jennifer on her difficult life journey. They are grateful that Jennifer is in the arms of Jesus, the supreme Comforter, and that sadness can no longer touch her.
Survivors include her mother, Camille Anderson Robinson, who has lived in Gainesville for 47 years; her father Dr. J. Daniel Robinson, of Dedham, Maine; a brother, Jordan and wife Meghan Robinson; two nieces, Blythe and Georgia Robinson and a nephew, McClain Robinson, all of Madison, Mississippi. Several cousins, aunts and uncles also mourn her passing.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Chapel, 4000 NW 53rd Ave. Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to: Pace Center Alachua, 1010 SE 4th Avenue Gainesville, FL 32601; Family Promise of Gainesville, 229 SW 5th St, Gainesville, FL 32601; or
