Jeffrey Woods Thompson's Obituary
Jeffrey Woods Thompson, 53, of Newberry, Florida, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 25, 2025.
He was born in Gainesville, FL on November 5, 1972 to Charles and Petra Thompson. He grew up in DeLand, Florida. After marrying in 1992, he moved to Alachua County, where he and his family built their life together.
Jeff is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Stephanie Ann Smalt Thompson; his children, Ethan, Mattie, and Kate Thompson; his mother, Petra Northcott Thompson; his sister, Jessica Lea Hayes (Liston), and his nieces, Kelsey and Claire Hayes. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles McLain Thompson, and his uncle, Stuart Parks Thompson.
Jeff devoted his entire career to Publix, beginning on January 1, 1991, as a Front Service Clerk in Orange City, FL. He held various positions in the grocery department before becoming an Assistant Store Manager in 2005 and a Store Manager in 2008. In 2019, he was promoted to District Manager, overseeing stores in Suwannee, Alachua, Columbia, and Gilchrist counties. In 2024, he received the President’s Award for the Jacksonville Division—an honor he treasured deeply. He was profoundly proud of his team, and he was honored to lead them. As a devoted Publix owner, he worked tirelessly to share the value of ownership with every associate.
Beyond his career, Jeff’s family was his greatest achievement and source of pride. He loved sharing stories about them, and he always imagined a bright future for each of his children. He took great joy in cooking for his family, friends, and co-workers. His sharp wit and humor will be missed by all who knew him. A lifelong fisherman, Jeff loved being on the water—fishing, scalloping, and taking sunset cruises in Steinhatchee with friends and family.
To honor Jeff’s life and legacy, a celebration of life will be held in Steinhatchee at a later date.
