Jean Harris' Obituary
Jean Christian Harris, age 67 of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at North Florida Regional Hospital. Jean was born June 9, 1954, in Gainesville, Florida, the daughter of Joe Worth and Mildred Christian Harris.
She received a degree in Microbiology from the University of Kentucky and later attended Florida Atlantic University where she received a Computer Science degree. She enjoyed a long career at the University of Florida in the Information Services department and retired in 2015.
Jean loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed watching and playing with her grand nieces and nephews. She like reading, crafts and traveling to see new places. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Alachua, Florida where she sang in the choir for many years and helped with Keenagers.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and twin sister, Jane Stratton Harris. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, David W. and Sheila M Harris; niece and nephews, Adam and Sarah Langston and their children Marlee and Van; Allison Harris; Thomas and Chelsea Harris, and son, Stratton. Her extended family includes Linda and Carlton Copeland, Mary and Jerry Mauldin; Mollie, Steve, Granger and Tucker Grote; Jeremy, Rebekah, Sophie and Ellie Copeland; Benjamin Copeland, Holly, Cody, Emma and Everett Banner.
Jean will be laid to rest privately by her family at Antioch Cemetery. A video of the memorial service will be posted to her memorial page at www.williamsthomasfuneralhome.com, on Monday, August 16 at 11:00 A. M. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Cellon-Thomas Campus of Friends of Children, P. O. Box 358502, Gainesville, FL 32653.
