Jane Stratton Harris' Obituary
Jane Stratton Harris, age 62 of Gainesville, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 in Shands UF Hospital. Jane was born June 9, 1954 in Gainesville, Florida, the daughter of Joe Worth and Mildred Christian Harris.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Kentucky and Master’s degree in library science from Florida State University. She started her career in library science at West Palm Beach County Library System and finished her career with the City of Jacksonville Public Library System as a region manager.
Jane loved spending time with family and family gatherings. She enjoyed reading, crafts and traveling to see new places. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Alachua, Florida where she served on several committees.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her twin sister, Jean Christian Harris; brother and sister-in-law, David W. and Sheila M. Harris; niece and nephews, Adam and Sarah Langston and daughter, Marlee; Allison Harris and Thomas and Chelsea Harris.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Alachua, 14005 NW 146th Avenue, with Rev. Doug Felton officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service beginning at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery in LaCrosse. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Cellon-Thomas Campus of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 8190, Lakeland, FL 33802.
