James Darlington Mixson's Obituary
On Saturday, August 17, 2024, James Darlington Mixson (Jim), loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jim was a man of unwavering faith and was a servant to God and his country. He served his country in the Navy/Marines from 1951-1955. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from Japan, he moved with his wife and son to St. Petersburg, Florida to begin his retail career at Belk Lindsey. He retired after 35 years at Belk in Melbourne, Florida. After retiring from Belk, Jim and Sue moved to Gainesville in 1999. Jim was an active member of Rotary Club, International in Melbourne, Fl, Gainesville, Fl, and Williston, Fl. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow and was given the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022. Jim also served his church. He was an active member, Life Group Leader, and Deacon at Westside Baptist Church. Jim’s character, antics, stories, wit, ”Jim-isms,” kind heart, infectious laugh, and tireless Christian faith will be missed by all who knew him.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Maxey and Iva Mae Mixson; and the love of his life, Sue B. Mixson. He is survived by his son, Dan (Judy); his grandchildren, Daniel, Venessa Daughtrey (Will); and three great-grandchildren, Grace, Tripp, and Jack Daughtrey; his sisters-in-law, Dianne Junior and Connie Junior; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 11:00am at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery (11020 NW Highway 320, Micanopy, Florida 32667-7674).
