Jim Biemer answered my prayers when he hired me to work at St. Joseph's Hospital in 1995. At the time, my family was moving to Tampa because my wife who was in the Air Force had been assigned to MacDill Air Force Base. I was coming out of my residency and scrambling to find a job in Tampa. When Jim hired me, I had no idea the job would be my first and last position as a pathologist. Jim was a good mentor to me and very affirming as I began my career. I will always be grateful to him for giving me the opportunity to work in such a great pathology practice and to work in a Catholic Hospital.

It was with sadness that I learned of the recent passing of Jim Biemer. Having worked with him for nearly 30 years in the pathology department at St Joseph’s Hospital I benefited greatly from his insights and mentorship, particularly in my early years on staff. Not only was he an excellent pathologist but he was also a man of many talents. My sincere sympathies are extended to his family.

This is Tony Brannan. Jim Beimer helped me start my career in medicine when he and Jeno Szakacs hired me to work in the Pathology Department at St Joseph’s Hospital for two summers during my premed years around 1974. I also had the opportunity to meet his son Jim at that time. I returned to St Joseph’s Hospital in 1986 as a General and Colorectal Surgeon and had the honor and privilege of working in collaboration with Jim and his excellent Pathology Department caring for and benefiting many patients at St Joseph’s Hospital. Jim was an excellent physician and a true gentleman who always inspired confidence. Thank you Jim. My sincere condolences, Tony
