James Clayton "Jimmy" Joiner's Obituary
James Clayton “Jimmy” Joiner, 93, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville, Florida.
Jimmy was born on January 20, 1931 in McIntosh, Florida. He was the third of five children and the eldest son of Clarence Albritton and Sadie Louise Williams Joiner.
Jimmy graduated from High School in 1949, and joined the U.S. Army in October 1949, where he served until November of 1970. During his time in the military, he was in the Korean War and served four tours in the Vietnam War.
He married Elsie Lou Biggs of Moffat, Colorado on May 14,1956 in Taos, New Mexico. They were married for 60 years, and were the parents of a son, Orvel Lynn Joiner and a daughter, Ramona Kay Joiner. Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Elsie Lou Biggs Joiner, his son Orvel Lynn Joiner, his sisters: Baby Girl Joiner (Rose Marie), Mary Adele Joiner Henderson, and halfsister Edna Maxine Story Thigpin, and by his brothers: Colon Dean Joiner and George Lamar Joiner.
He is survived by his daughter Ramona Kay Joiner Carney, Quitman, GA, granddaughter Alayna Kay Carney, Quitman, GA, great-grandson Amory Jayce Carney, and great-granddaughter Armani Kay Hampton, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Gainesville, with Bishop Grant Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Center Point Cemetery, 6077 NW 220th St. Micanopy, FL following the service.
