Richard and I first met Jim and Betty through Gator Tip-off Club where Betty and I worked on the Board.
They encouraged us to join Gator Town Gators as well. From that point on, they became fixtures in our UF social life and great friends. Jim’s tales of WV life and early years with Betty kept us in stitches. We swapped and forwarded humor and wisdom on Facebook until recently. Jim’s amazing sense of humor aside, what I will most remember about him was a poignant incident when I showed up to sit with him in the waiting room of the surgeon consulting with Betty on her scheduled surgery for cancer. I went because I had had the same surgery with the same surgeon, and I remember how frightening the waiting can be for a spouse. I have never seen, in my recollection, any man who was more deeply in love with his wife than Jim with Betty. Jim will be sorely missed. May God comfort Betty and their family which gave him such pride.

In our experience here in Gainesville .. 40 years now .. no one we’ve met has made the impression “Jimbo” has made to our experience .. the nicest and most considerate person we have met .. no one more involved civically or with UF athletics .. so happy Mary Wise reached out when she did … long overdue and hopefully more to come while his memory is still fresh … RIP my friend … Rick and Mary Reichardt ..
I was so very lucky to have met Jim while walking in our neighborhood. Many wonderful conversations while we sat by the bridge ….looking at the creek. He so loved his children and his wife….whenever he mentioned them his face brightened. What a wonderful attitude ……very giving….full of humor….loving and always positive. I will really miss seeing his smile….and our talks. Very thankful to have met Jim.
