I was honoured to meet Prof Tumilinsom at my brother’s memorial service. As Kathy said, Jim was a huge influence in his life, setting Peter on a path that became more than a career. From the time Peter arrived in Gainesville, he always spoke with pride about the support and encouragement that he received from Jim. Even though our family in Ottawa had few chances to meet him, we fully appreciated how influential Jim was for Peter and we were so grateful that Peter had Jim as a supervisor, colleague, collaborator, but most importantly, friend. That was why it was such an honour to finally meet him at Peter’s memorial. My deepest sympathies to his wife and family.

Jim was one of my favorite horseback riding friends. We shared many miles of beautiful trails in PA, along with plenty of laughter. I will miss him very much.

Jim was a very important person in Peter's life. He was Peter's UF doctoral advisor, post-doctoral supervisor, scientific supervisor and collaborator, mentor, best friend, and so much more. He was the reason that Peter chose UF as a graduate school, and also the reason that he returned to Gainesville from his professorship at the University of Guelph. They weren't done working together and had an amazing synergy. Although, retired from USDA and holding emeritus positions in FL and PA, Jim stepped right in and tied up a few loose ends of Peter's after he passed. What a great guy. What a great career. He will be missed by so many. My sincere condolences to the family.
