James Richard "Dick" Gober's Obituary
James Richard “Dick” Gober was born October 19, 1937 near Birmingham, Alabama to the late Ellis Kenneth Gober and the late Jessie Edgeworth Gober. He passed away on the evening of October 5, 2015 at Shands Hospital, Gainesville, Florida; surrounded by family.
He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Rebecca P. Gober; his son Randy Gober, his daughter, Ashley Billeri; his son-in-law, Jerome Billeri; his grand-children, Ava & Bennett, his step-daughter, Jennifer Blake; his step-daughter, Susan Norton; his son-in-law, Charles Norton, and his grand-children, Luke & Marlowe. In addition, his sister, Gwendolyn Hopper; his nieces, Nancy Kelly and Lara Peterson, their families and his beloved dog Maggie.
Dick graduated from Apopka (FL) High School and attended The University of Florida. He left to serve in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command and returned to the University where he was elected Vice President of the Student body, Clerk of the Honor Court, Member of the Blue Key Society and a member of the UF Hall of Fame. Following graduation, he had a long and productive career in the field of Employee Benefits and Risk Management. He helped improve the lives of employees and team members of Blount Brothers Construction, KinderCare and the City of Gainesville, Fl.
A Memorial Service will be held, Monday, October 12, 2015, 2:00 pm, at UF Baughman Center, 982 Museum Road, Gainesville, FL 32611.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Heart Association, PO Box 840692 Dallas, TX 75284, in his honor.
