James Leon Durrance's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James "Jim" Leon Durrance, a beloved father, sibling and esteemed public servant, and passionate artist, who left us on August 22, 2024, at the age of 68.
Jim was a man of many talents and a heart full of dedication. Born on July 21st, 1956, in Gainesville, Florida. Jim spent his life bridging the worlds of art and public service. His artistic spirit was evident in every stroke of his pen and every sculpted form he created. His work, which ranged from technically brilliant printmaking to cosmic creations that could only be conveyed through his creative genius. Jim’s work was not only a reflection of his boundless creativity but also a testament to his deep understanding of the human experience.
In his professional life, Jim dedicated over 34 years to serving the community as a public servant. His commitment to making a difference was evident in the countless hours he spent working tirelessly to improve the lives of those around him. Known for his humor at work known for his congeniality and dedication to those he served. Whether it was through community outreach programs, city planning, or mentorship, Jim's contributions left an indelible mark on the community he loved so dearly.
As a father, Jim was a guiding light and a source of unwavering support. His children remember him not just for his artistic achievements and professional accomplishments, but for the love and wisdom he imparted. He took great pride in his role as a parent, and his legacy lives on through the values and lessons he shared with his family.
Jim's passing leaves a void that will be felt deeply by all who knew him. His artistic creations will continue to inspire and his contributions to public service will be remembered with gratitude. His family, friends, and community mourn the loss of a remarkable man who enriched their lives with his presence and passion.
Jim is predeceased by his parents John ‘Jack’ Rufus Durrance & Janet Hiers Durrance.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Ann Durrance; three children, James Kenlon-Durrance, Benjamin Durrance, and Meghan Durrance; three siblings, John Durrance, Jill Welch, and Jean Tarwater; seven nephews, Travis Durrance, Jack Tarwater, Joseph Tarwater, Ian Richmond, Austin Richmond, Evan Richmond, Philip Kenlon; three nieces, Cara Johnson, Bennet Welch, and Katie Sobol; and three grandnieces, Eli Johnson, Reese Johnson, and Dakota Durrance; Two brother-in-laws Frank Kenlon, and James Kenlon; and four sister-in-laws Michelle Kenlon, Amber Belon, Kate Richmond, and Mindy Durrance.
There will be a Celebration of Life service will be held at Williams-Thomas Westarea, 823 NW 143rd St, Newberry, FL 32669 on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 at 12:00p.m. with the eulogy at 1:30p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to, Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida Incorporated. Jim had a deep appreciation of nature that inspired much of his artwork.
