James "Dan" Daniel Shivers' Obituary
James “Dan” Daniel Shivers, 80, of Alachua, Florida, passed away on September 29, 2025, following a brief illness.
Dan was born on July 28, 1945, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Sam and Doris (Duncan) Shivers. His family later relocated to Alachua, where he graduated from Santa Fe High School. Alachua remained his lifelong home and the heart of his community.
A proud and passionate Gator fan, Dan was once a Bull Gator and rarely missed a home game, cheering on the Florida Gators was one of his greatest joys. He also had a deep love for the outdoors and treasured every opportunity to go fishing.
Dan’s earlier years were spent working as a general contractor and painting contractor, where he built a reputation for hard work and integrity. Above all, he was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family fiercely.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Perry Shivers; his children, Troy Shivers, Robert Shivers, and Carla Shivers McDonald; his siblings, Joyce Warner Gilbert, Carol Shivers Lee, and Joseph Shivers; his grandchildren, Justin Shivers, Hunter Shivers, Kyle Shivers, Brandi Shivers, Austin Douglas, and Colton Douglas; and great-grandchildren, Presleigh Shivers, Kyler Shivers, Mallory Shivers, Harper Shivers, Preston Shivers, Salem Shivers, Clance Shivers, Wynter Shivers, Emma Gilhooly, Reid Gilhooly, and Ayla Douglas.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Doris Shivers, and his sister, Sharon Shivers Desormeaux.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering loyalty to both his family and his Florida Gators. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 12:00 P. M. in the Forest Meadows Memorial Park West, with Rev. Jim Riley, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the services from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M., in the Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, Newberry.
