James T. Cannon's Obituary
James T. Cannon (“Jim”), age 52, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2026.
Born in Milford, Connecticut, Jim grew up in Gainesville, Florida, where he graduated from Gainesville High School. He attended the University of Florida, earning both his undergraduate degree and Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Jim practiced dentistry in Sarasota for many years before transitioning to the treatment of sleep apnea, a field he was deeply passionate about.
Jim was a lifelong fan of the University of Florida Gators.
Above all else, Jim’s greatest pride was being a father to his daughters, Gabrielle and Caroline. He loved supporting their interests in music, sports, and academics and treasured time spent together, especially annual trips to Cedar Point and their tradition of riding roller coasters.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Gabrielle and Caroline; his mother, Nancy Fischer; his brother, John Cannon; his sister, Patty DeGraff and husband Stephen; and many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard C. Cannon, and his stepfather, Jay Fischer.
Jim will be remembered with love by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew him.
A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 22, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 NW 43rd St. Gainesville. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows Central Cemetery, 4100 NW 39th Ave.
