James Lewis Belcher's Obituary
Mr. James Lewis Belcher, 83, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at his home.
Mr. Belcher was born in Daleville, Alabama on August 23, 1934, to the late Willie and Ida Belle Belcher. As a young man, he joined the U. S. Navy, and was stationed in Hawaii at the time of their becoming a state. After his military service, he moved to Florida and began a long career with Publix Supermarkets, working his way up to District Manager the position he held at his retirement in 1998 after 40 years. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished pilot, flying a Seneca twin engine. Mr. Belcher attended Abundant Grace Community Church in Gainesville.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Phyllis Courson Belcher; a daughter Teresa Palmer, of Fort Pierce; a son, James D. Belcher, of Englewood; a step-daughter, Heather Bray, of Newberry; a brother John Belcher, of Palmetto; a sister, Joyce Smith, of Tavares; grandchildren, Garret and Colton Malone, Kristina Bowes and Beau and Brock Bray; one great grandchild, Kinsley Knotts.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 4:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd St., with Pastor Phil Courson, officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 3:00 P. M.
