James Irving Andrews Sr.'s Obituary
James Irving Andrews, Sr., 85, of Hawthorne, Florida went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 31, 2017, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Andrews was born in Russellville, Georgia on February 5, 1932 to the late Carl and Jenny Andrews. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during and being part of the first troops sent to the Korean Conflict. Mr. Andrews met the love of his life in 1952, Faye Cox, and after only three weeks of dating, he asked her to marry him. In 1954, he and his wife, Faye, moved to Gainesville to work in the construction business. In 1965 he went into business for himself.
He had a lifelong love for working with his hands to make something beautiful. His greatest joy was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a magnet for babies and little children. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Hawthorne.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Faye Andrews, by his sisters, Mary Wright and Gladys Fletcher, brothers, William, Thurman, Carlton, Hugh, Bob and Benny Andrews.
Survivors include, a brother, Charlie D. Andrews; a daughter, Wanda (John) Jennings; two sons, James I. “Andy”(Shelly) Andrews, Jr. and Scott (Melissa) Andrews. Grandchildren, Lanie (Chris) Cyr, Cassie (Josh) Hoffmann, Johnny Jennings, Kenny Andrews, Dean Dukes and Evan Andrews, Kris and Kevin Cox; two great grandchildren, Bryson Cyr and Dylan Hoffmann.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 2:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Hawthorne, 301 South at Lake Avenue, with Rev. Robert Carter, officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 P. M. Interment will follow in Memorial Park East. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Haven Hospice, 6400 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, FL 32177.
