Jacqueline D. Harris' Obituary
Jacqueline D. Harris, better known as Jackie, age 91 of Gainesville, Florida passed away peacefully in her home of 63 years on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Jackie was the oldest of three daughters born May 11, 1932 to Lawrence and Daisy Cason Douberly in Fort White, Florida. She was raised in Macclenny, Florida and graduated from Baker County High School in 1950. She married Dwight Harris, also of Macclenny in 1954. They had two children, Lynn and Larry, less than 13 months apart in age.
Jackie was always an active servant of every church she was a member of. She started playing the church piano when her feet could touch the pedals and she played the piano, organ and sang in the church choir every Sunday she was in attendance. Jackie even played the piano at Pine Grove Baptist Church the Sunday prior to her passing. Jackie was a beautiful woman of strong faith.
Jackie worked in the medical field, first with the Crippled Children’s Commission and then at Shands for 34 years as the Administrative Assistant to Dr. Robert Cade, inventor of Gatorade.
Jackie met Myles MacDonald at Pine Grove Baptist Church in 1995 where they both served actively. The two were inseparable companions until his death in September 2021.
Jackie is survived by her two children, Lynn Harris, Larry Harris and his wife Pam, three grandsons Michael (Kaitlin), Jonathan (Emily) and Daniel (Cassandra), along with her two beautiful great grandchildren, Grayson (11) and Mason (9). She is also survived by her youngest sister Venita Douberly Milton and generations of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Jean Douberly Sapp.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Williams Thomas Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at Pine Grove Baptist Church on Thursday, March 21, 2024. The family will receive guests at 10:00 AM with the service starting at 10:30. A graveside service will also be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny, Florida at 1:00 the same day with a reception following.
